2 JUNE is Edward Elgar’s Birthday

Sir Edward Elgar had no formal training in composition, yet he was the most famous English composer of orchestral music during the late 19th-century. 

Elgar’s most significant works are The Dream of Gerontius and Pomp and Circumstance Marches.

The latter has the tune sung to the words “Land of Hope and Glory”, and the audience always joins in singing it at the Last Night of the Proms.

Introduce your elementary students to Elgar and his music with these TWO Elgar Foldables!

Celebrated each year on the first Friday of June, National Donut Day celebrates the donut and honors the women who served donuts to soldiers during WWII. Of course, these review worksheets are fun to use any day of the year.

8 JUNE is Kanye West’s Birthday

Kanye West is an American producer, rapper, and fashion designer who parlayed his production success in the late 1990s and early 2000s into a career as a popular, critically acclaimed solo artist. He has been influential in the 21st-century development of mainstream hip hop and popular music.

West has won a total of 22 Grammy Awards, making him one of the most awarded artists of all time.

8 JUNE is Robert Schumann’s Birthday

Robert Schumann was a German composer, pianist, and influential music critic. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of the Romantic era. He wrote many of his best-known piano pieces for his wife, Clara Schumann. Even Clara herself was an established pianist and musical prodigy.

This is an international day that takes place annually on June 8. The purpose of this day is to foster the public interest in the protection of the ocean and the sustainable management of its resources.

11 JUNE is Richard Strauss’ Birthday

Richard Strauss was an outstanding German composer of the Romantic era. He is described as a successor of Richard Wagner and Franz Liszt, who hugely impacted Richard’s musical development.

One of Strauss’ most recognizable pieces is the tone poem Also Sprach Zarathustra. Its sunrise theme became hugely popular in the 1968 Stanley Kubrick film, 2001: A Space Odyssey.
